About Us!

The Changing Cadence Foundation is dedicated to delivering philanthropy and fostering community well-being by providing services and opportunities that support our veterans, first responders, and growing families. As an organization, we are committed to using all funds raised to strengthen these pillars of our community, as well as to support other local Placer County organizations that align with our mission.

Founded by Nick Busse, a veteran with 13 years of military service, and his wife Maggie Busse, an expert in psychology and early childhood development, the foundation is rooted in a deep commitment to service. Nick's experience in solving complex issues and creating opportunities for veterans, combined with a passion for building a better world for families like his own, led to the creation of Changing Cadence—a platform designed to strengthen the three essential elements of a prosperous and healthy community: our uniformed heroes, parents, and the well-being of our next generation.

Since its inception in 2023, Changing Cadence has uplifted numerous organizations, provided financial assistance to local nonprofits, and demonstrated a steadfast commitment to our community. We invite you to join us—whether as a volunteer, program director, board member, or leader in your field—in paving a pathway of positivity. Together, we can create a thriving and vibrant community. Let's make a difference, one step at a time.

Changing the Cadence

The concept of "Changing the Cadence" draws inspiration from the military tradition where a senior leader leads a march with a cadence, instilling self-confidence and motivation in those who follow. This powerful act of leadership and unity serves as a reminder that even outside of military service, we can continue to influence and uplift others.

At the Changing Cadence Foundation, we aim to be that voice of leadership and encouragement in our community. Our mission is to strengthen the bonds between those in need and those who want to help. By "changing the cadence" of others' lives, we strive to restore hope, rekindle the smiles that may have faded, and lift others up in their times of need.

Through our programs and initiatives, we hope to be a channel for positive change, empowering our veterans, first responders, and families to thrive. Together, we can create a rhythm of support and compassion that resonates throughout our community, making it stronger and more united

“Delivering kindness, is as easy as a smile. So offer one when you can.”

— Nick Busse CEO

After serving 13 years as a combat arms sergeant in the U.S. Army, including two full years in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn, Nick Busse transitioned from the battlefield to corporate America, where he spearheaded a nationally recognized military program at Leaf Home. His deep-rooted passion for service extended beyond his career, leading him to volunteer extensively in his community and church. Becoming a father for the first time profoundly impacted his outlook on life, igniting a deep desire to create a lasting legacy that would positively impact families, especially those who serve our nation and communities. Together with his wife, Maggie, Nick founded the Changing Cadence Foundation, a Christian-based nonprofit dedicated to serving veterans, first responders, and community youth. With a deep portion of their hearts devoted to helping families, they created this endeavor to give back to those who protect and serve, embodying the values of selfless service, family, and community that are central to their lives.
